The upgrade process from Dynamics NAV to Dynamics 365 Business Central is dependant on many factors. Whether you decide to move wholly to the cloud or retain an on-premise model is one part.  Industry-specific solutions may have multiple add-in tools and compute large amounts of data specific to their industry – so an “off the shelf” solution may be limited.

Out-of-the-box Reporting Features in Business Central

Business Central comes with the same, if not more, standard reporting you have grown used to in Dynamics NAV. The out-of-the-box reporting features include Account Schedules, Microsoft Excel report templates, RDL (using Visual Studio or Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services SSRS), custom XML in Word, and Power BI with Business Central content packs for basic Finance, Sales and CRM.

These tools will give you access to the data you need to chart financial performance, analyse data and forecast trends.

If you are using a Pre 2009 NAV instance and invested in enhanced reporting in NAV, you may have concerns about migrating to a new system.

What happens to NAV reports when you upgrade to Business Central?

If you have used enhanced reporting tools like Jet Reports, then the great news is you can take all your NAV reports with you! Financial reporting helps companies understand their performance across many areas – whether this is the baseline profit margins and where improvements could be made to identifying your best customer.

Before migrating all your historic reports, it’s worth taking stock and understanding what you want your reports to tell you. Some may be outdated, or easily replicated in Business Central. At Turnkey, our ERP experts are with you every step of your upgrade journey. We are here to help you discover the latest innovative technologies available from Microsoft and within 365 Business Central.

Cubes and Formatting

At Turnkey, we remove all the technical jargon for you. Put simply, the format in which reports were processed in NAV (Pre 2009) differs from Business Central – we’ve partnered with trusted suppliers, like ForNAV, to make this change as easy as possible.  Using the ForNAV Converter, we can reduce the upgrade costs to migrate your classic NAV reports to the new RDLC format by up to 90%.

data cubes

Business Central also works with cubes for better Business Intelligent reporting.

Whether you are looking to create powerful dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, or process large data sets using software like Jet Reports (with Microsoft Excel) – the ability to extract data cubes helps you get more visibility into your financial business performance.

More about Jet Reports

Business intelligence was designed to support general business users who need to be able to use data to support their organisation and make decisions. Jet Reports have been a leader for business intelligence, data warehousing and reporting in the Microsoft Dynamics channel for over 10 years. Working with Dynamics ERP users has helped them create a user interface that sits on top of the Microsoft technology stack and allows the individual tools (SSAS, SSIS, MDX, etc.) to be used in a graphical, drag-and-drop environment through data warehouse automation (DWH).

Although there are a lot of solutions to choose from, Jet products are built with this end goal in mind: To field all your data sources into a single, highly adaptive BI solution that provides your reports and dashboards in the format users need.  Compare all the Jet products in this video.
